How we can help you
Why do we need to include BSL? What are the advantages in doing this?
Our role is in promoting the use of BSL, explaining the commercial benefits to business, as well as giving clear advice on areas of their web sites that would benefit from BSL assisted animations.
Clearly there is a huge benefit to the deaf community, but there is also a benefit to businesses too. With sites having to meet WC3 standards, and perhaps more importantly, be seen to be meet the criteria of 'equal opportunities' and project the right image. Naturally there are benefits in terms of sales or enquiries too and there is also an accredited star-rated logo for use on your site that deaf visitors will understand (see below)..
Potentially confusing pages can be explained in terms that a deaf person would understand easily and provide them with a fast route to the information they need. If your competitors are not offering BSL assisted pages then the advantage is very much yours - and those who use the service.
So how can you help us achieve this?
Initially we will look at the way your site is presently constructed and see if it currently meets or comes close to WC3 compliance. This is quite important since WC3 compliance ensures you meet set criteria in terms of accessibility as a whole. We then look at ways to improve navigation for deaf people and any areas we feel will benefit from BSL animation, ie explaining forms, providing summaries of information. We then supply all the signing animations to an agreed format - generally Windows Media files or Flash.
SEE-BSL accredited pages
More importantly, SEE-BSL assisted pages are accredited by us with a star-rated BSL logo (see right for examples). These are scaled according to the degree of BSL available to a deaf customer, providing at-a-glance information for the deaf community in terms of the level of BSL available to them.
In addition, your site (even as a one star) will be automatically listed in the forthcoming SEE-BSL directory, giving the deaf community a fast way to find sites that provide the services they need. Would every word need to be signed ?
No. Frequently sites use a great deal of sales talk and the point of SEE-BSL pages is to provide a fast signposting system to all the relevant areas. It would be pointless to have every single page signed and would add considerably to file sizes and page loading time on such a scale. SEE-BSL assisted pages effectively summarise content.
